SEASON STARTS: Week of March 6
Registration for the spring season is open and the season begins in March! Our elementary school program is open to all 3rd - 5th grade girls. Participants meet twice a week after school, for 90 minutes each practice. The season culminates with a 5k event where all Girls on the Run participants come together to celebrate girl power in a season ending 5k run.
Each team has a minimum of 8 girls and a maximum of 15. Once a team is full, a waiting list will begin. If a spot becomes available, it will be offered to the next girl on the waiting list.
Once you register your daughter, you will receive an email confirmation. In March, we will email you a welcome packet that will include the full season calendar, program logistics, and an introduction to your daughter’s coaches.
TEAMS WITH SPOTS FOR GIRLS STILL AVAILABLEThere are 15 spots for girls on each Girls on the Run team. While some teams are full and have waiting lists, many still have spots available.
Building confidence and setting young girls down the path of a healthy lifestyle is PRICELESS! However, there are real costs associated with operating a non-profit organization and delivering the Girls on the Run program to approximately 870 girls in the Portland area each year. Registration is $180 per girl and includes:
**Some districts (Battleground, Beaverton, Evergreen, Lake Oswego, Oregon Trail, Portland, Sherwood, West Linn-Wilsonville) charge a high facility use fee. At those sites, an additional ~$10 will be added to cover costs.

The scholarship approval process is included in the online and paper registration process. Simply answer the scholarship questions during registration, and the computer will determine your eligibility and adjust the fee accordingly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
My girl isn't a big runner; is this program for her? OR My girl is already a skilled runner. Is this program for her?Yes! We are much more than a running program, and every girl can benefit from the experience of building confidence through accomplishment while participating in our rich, curriculum-based, age-appropriate, interactive lessons. Expect lots of games, talking, laughing and processing in addition to running at each practice.
What does the program fee include?Though our actual cost per girl is more than $270, through generous donors we're able to subsidize the cost to families, and the program fee for the 10-week, 20-lesson season is $180. Your program registration fee includes all lesson materials, including GOTR curriculum, activity sheets, lap counters and more, a GOTR t-shirt, a bib entry into the season-ending 5k, a finisher's medal, a GOTR water bottle, and a healthy snack at every practice.
We can't afford the program registration fee but our daughter would love to participate. How does the scholarship program work?Don't let cost stop you from participating! We'd love to have your daughter involved and we are committed to making Girls on the Run accessible to all girls. Thanks to generous donors and community supporters, program scholarships are available to any girl who needs it, and we can also provide running shoes and clothing to girls in need. The online registration form will walk you through a few questions to find the fee that is right for your family based on a sliding scale.
When does the 10-week season begin?Practices will begin in March. The culminating event will be the 5k on Saturday, May 13th. More information will be shared by the GOTR staff and by your girl's coaches once the season begins.
Do girls need to attend both days each week in order to register?Yes! Since most of our teams fill up quickly, if your girl will be unable to attend all the sessions, please save room for a girl who can, and consider joining us in a future season when she can enjoy the entire program.
Does my girl need a Running Buddy? Each girl should have an adult (age 18+) Running Buddy who will register for the Spring 2017 5k. Learn more about running buddies, here.
Is there a way for me to sponsor another girl's participation this season?Yes!
